Van Ark’s acting career began in the 1960s. She gained recognition for her performances in various television shows and theater productions. She made appearances in popular shows like “The Twilight Zone” and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” Her talent and dedication to her craft led to opportunities in both drama and comedy genres.

Joan Van Ark’s most notable role came in 1978 when she landed the character of Valene Ewing in the popular CBS series “Dallas.” Valene’s character became a fan favorite and went on to be a central figure in the spin-off show “Knots Landing.” The show ran for an impressive 13 seasons from 1979 to 1992. Van Ark’s portrayal of Valene earned her recognition and accolades. She won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Actress in 1986 and 1989.

For their honeymoon, the couple embarked on a European tour, exploring locations associated with Van Ark’s namesake, Joan of Arc.

Van Ark and Marshall have one child, Vanessa Marshall, who is a voice actress, model, and singer. In a mother-daughter collaboration, they jointly appeared in the stage play “Star Dust” at the Tiffany Theater in 1997.

Joan Van Ark has also demonstrated her passion for long-distance running. She has participated in an impressive 14 marathons and even graced the cover of Runner’s World.
